Raspberry PI

Low Cost Computer for $120, Just Add Monitor or TV with HDMI Input

The Raspberry Pi is a low cost single board computer that is perfectly serviceable for web browsing, google apps, and watching videos. It will not do a great job editing videos or higher processor related processes. It would handle most school related assignments.

The kits below include everything but the monitor. You will need a monitor with HDMI or a TV with HDMI to hook them to. If you have an older monitor take a picture of the connector and show it to an associate at Microcenter for help selecting the appropriate adapter.

This is a complete kit including the computer, case, power supply, HDMI cable, Keyboard, Mouse, and SD card with and operating system pre-loaded.

If you want to upgrade to a wireless keyboard and mouse, you can get the below kit without a keyboard and mouse. This would allow you to purchase the wireless keyboard/mouse separately. This could be helpful if you are using the PI with a TV and want to sit further back from the TV. A good kit/wireless keyboard option are below:

Important Notes

*These Kits have to be assembled. There are a lot of YouTube videos available showing how to assemble these kits.

**The school district cannot support Raspberry Pi’s or their assembly. We are just trying to show you low cost options.

***Both of the kits above come with the Noobs operating system pre-loaded. Noobs is a version of Linux. When the computer boots, it operates very similar to Windows.

****Microcenter has the option to purchase online and pick up in the store to minimize exposure.

*****If you have some of the components already and you have another computer with the ability to copy the OS onto a micro SD card, there are certainly cheaper options than these 2 kits. These kits were chosen because they can be utilized without having anything else.

*****All of these options are also available on Amazon as well, but they are actually cheaper at Microcenter.
