OCTOBER STEM CHALLENGES
BIRD NEST CHALLENGE
Design and create a bird nest that will hold the most pennies. Test your nest in a real tree or using a branch from your yard.
Constraints: should not be larger than 6 inches, no tape or glue may be used
Materials: sticks, yarn, paper, scissors, pennies
RUBBER BAND CAR CHALLENGE
Constraints: none
Materials: Pringles can or similar, 4 rubber bands, 2 wooden skewers, 2 paper clips, 4 plastic bottle caps
CANDY CORN CHALLENGE
Design an aluminum foil boat that will hold MANY pieces of candy corn.
Constraints: no larger than 5 inches long
Materials: aluminum foil sheet approx. 8.5"x11", bag of candy corn, small tub of water
SPIDER WEB CHALLENGE
Design and create a spider web that can safely hold the most spiders.
Constraints: web must be 1 ft. x 1 ft. or smaller
Materials: string or yarn, fake spiders or similar (pipe cleaners or Wikki Stix to make spiders)
CARDBOARD CHAIR CHALLENGE
Design a chair out of cardboard.
Constraints: must be action figure size, NO SHARP TOOLS MAY BE USED, tear only
Materials: cereal box
EIFFEL TOWER CHALLENGE

Constraints: no more than 1 foot of tape can be used
Materials: 1 ft. of tape, stapler, stacks of newspaper, model or picture of the Eiffel Tower
MAZE CHALLENGE
Create a maze for something to travel through. YOUR CHOICE on what object will navigate the maze.
Constraints: none
Materials: Optional materials: Legos, books, cups, paper, straws, cardboard tubes, craft sticks, blocks
PAPER AIRPLANE CHALLENGE
Construct 2 paper airplanes, one designed for distance and another for speed.
Constraints: none
Materials: 2 sheets 8 1/2 x 11 paper, scissors (if needed), tape (if needed), glue (if needed)
PAPER PLATE CHALLENGE
Cut a paper plate into a long strip or coil.
Constraints: Perform only one cut without stopping.
Materials: 1 paper plate, scissors
