ABOUT GRADING

We will be grading using a Standards-Based grading system this year. That means that you will receive number grades (4,3,2,1,0) for standards that we are working on in class. Standards grades will make up 90% of your grade.

You will also receive an overall letter grade for each course. This letter grade will be largely determined by your final scores on the standards we cover in class for that select time period. However, this year, homework, classwork, and quizzes will also be used to determine your overall LETTER grade. This will make up 10% of your overall grade, so it is important that you complete all homework assignments, classwork, and do your best on quizzes.

You will also receive a grade for WORK HABITS. This includes citizenship, participation, effort, and organization. Work habits will not count toward your overall grade for the class, but will be included in your report cards.

Homework/Classwork/Quizzes:

This year, select homework assignments, classwork, and quizzes will count toward 10% of your overall grade in class. We will be using the Homework flowchart above to help determine your grade for these assignments. Notice that if an assignment is complete and turned in on time with few errors, it is worth a 4. For every day that an assignment is late, you will lose 1 point toward completion. Any assignment 4+ days late will be entered in the grade book as a ZERO.

Missing Work Report

Students will be required to complete a Missing Work report for each assignment that they do not complete. An email will be automatically generated to inform parents that their work is missing. Students will be given 1 week from the due date to complete any missing work. If students have not completed the work by the deadline, it will be recorded in the grade book as a ZERO and they will be unable to make up the work.
