At one of the first Band Booster meetings, there will be multiple sign up sheets. Sign up for at least one volunteer slot. You as a parent will learn a lot. Don’t worry about knowing or not knowing anything, there will be plenty of people to guide you through your job. I signed up for one of each my first year, just to get a feel for what I would like to do in the coming years.
After each band competition, the kids are to log on to their Moodle account and watch the performance. If you were not able to make it, you too can watch them here or try Youtube.
Students are to listen to what the judges said during their performance. This is also helpful/interesting to listen to as a parent. You can learn what the band is judged on.
If your child does not do well on a band assignment, it can be redone for a better score.
Even being one minute late can result in a lower grade for rehearsals. This may seem severe, but just think if you were working with 100 plus students and even 10% came in at different times? Kids are typically 10 to 15 minutes early to everything.
The buses leave on time! Don’t be late. They will leave you.
Our band is the most disciplined of all the bands. It is so cool to see our kids silent and at attention when there is chaos all about.
After the competitions, students should take the uniform out of the bag and let it dry out. They might also check for stinky socks and such for the laundry.
Before each competition or march, there are a number of parents helping with hair. All hair must be off the collar and in the hat.
Hems of uniform pants should be right at the rubber part of the shoe.
No nail polish.
Did I say don’t be late? :)
