In this section, you will find useful information around what your child will be doing each term. Here we will outline your child's spellings, homework, PE days and book that we are sharing in class. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
PE
This term, children must wear their PE kit to school every Wednesday and Thursday. PE kit is part of our school uniform and we expect all children to wear the following: a blue Welton branded PE t-shirt, black or navy shorts, black or navy joggers, school jumper and plain trainers. There is an optional Welton PE hoody.
Please keep an eye out for changes to PE days for term 2. Thursdays may switch to Fridays.
Snacks and drinks
Please encourage your child to bring a break time snack of fruit (including dried fruit) or vegetables only. No ‘school’ bars/smoothies/yoghurts/nuts for snacks please. Water bottles should contain water only and juice/squash is not permitted.
Homework
At Welton Primary School our homework policy aims to embed learning that has taken place at school. We value all extra curricular activities that our pupils take part in outside of the school day and therefore we aim for our homework expectations to be appropriate and manageable. Year 5 homework expectations:
Reading - 5-10 minutes, on at least three separate days, signed by a parent/carer- Checked on Fridays
SPAG (spellings, punctuation and grammar) - Complete the sheet - spend no longer than 15 minutes on it
Checked on Thursdays
Spellings- write your list of spellings at least three times on the back of the SPAG sheet - spend no longer than 15 minutes on this- Checked on Thursdays- Tested on Fridays
Maths - Complete 2 DoodleMaths ‘assignments’ - Checked on Thursdays
Homework will be set on Fridays and is due back into class by the following Thursday (except for reading). If a pupil needs help with it, then they are encouraged to ask me as soon as possible. If homework is not completed and handed in, support will be given for its completion during break and lunchtimes.
TT Rockstars/Doodle Maths/Doodle English/Reading Plus
All pupils have a login for these online learning resources and we encourage pupils to use them at home. If your child finds times tables tricky please encourage them to learn them at home. Doodle Maths is part of your child’s homework. Reading Plus access may be limited to the beginning of this year, so please use it as much as possible to get the full advantage.
