Reading at Home
What are the expectations?
Hearing your child read at home is incredibly important and we ask that you listen to your child read at least three times a week. We will also send home a sharing book for you to read to your child.
Initially your child will receive a wordless book. please talk about what you can see happening in the pictures and ask your child lots of questions.
We will change your child's reading book once a week (if they have read at home at least 3 times), please send in reading folders every day.
Phonics
Our phonics scheme is Unlocking Letters and Sounds. We learn 4 new phonemes a week through reading and writing. We would love you to come to our parent phonics session to learn more.
Maths
Maths is taught through games and songs. We we also be following the Mastering Number scheme this year, which ensure children have a good level of fluency with subitising and recall of addition and subtraction facts.
Drawing Club
Literacy in reception is taught through drawing club. We choose a different book, traditional tale or animation as our focus for the week. Next we learn about character, setting and adventure. It is so much fun and a chance to let imaginations fly!
