Welcome to Nightingale Class

We had great fun in the heat this afternoon. The children had the opportunity to create their own fantastical map using rice. We placed some rice on a paper and then created interesting shapes and round them. Once we did that, we then created our amazing maps. The children were really inspired and had fantastic ideas. I have told the children that now they need to create  magical stories to go with these maps. Maybe you could create a story with your child at home!

Congratulations to Thea who won our 'Becoming an Engineer' competition from our STEM week a few months back. She went to see her work in an exhibition. We are very proud of her.

What an exciting week we've had! The children had the opportunity to work with Stage Coach company today and they had great fun learning how to sing songs and act. They listened very carefully and enjoyed honing their acting and singing skills.

The children had great fun at Bath University. They had a wonderful time exercising their PE skills in the Sports Village. We had a fantastic group of Bath University sports coaches who put on four amazing activities. The children made their own gold medals, which they wore all day! They also had great fun learning tennis. After lunch, the children had to go at doing some team games including stuck-in-the-mud and chasing circle games. The last session was  a team games  session which involved relay races. The children were rather hot and sticky, but they had a fantastic time!

Some of Nightingale Class had great fun at Longleat this week. They went on the safari and saw lots of exciting wild animals. they also had fun looking at other animals around the park. They came back tired, but very happy. 

We have started a brand-new art topic in our art this week. We are looking at maps and how maps can be used in artwork. This will eventually lead to us creating our very own aboriginal map artwork where we will be looking at aboriginal symbols. Our first lesson this week was to design our own creative and exciting map. The children had the chance to colour the whole of their page with their artwork. The children listened carefully to the techniques that were shown and had, great fun creating their own imagined piece of artwork. Here are some of them below.

We have been making music in our computing lesson. We have been learning about how we can use digital devices to create our own music. The children had a go of using Chrome Music Lab and had fantastic time drawing pictures with the software and then seeing what music the pictures were able to play. It was a very noisy, but very, fun lesson.

We have been looking at helping out poor baby bear whose chair was broken by that naughty Goldilocks. In doing this, the children were looking at structures and stability and how to create a structure that can hold a weight. We spent some time looking at different three shapes and how they can hold weight and we discovered that cylinders were the best for this. The children then had fun creating their own cylinder shapes to hold weights. They did this brilliantly!

We had such great fun at the SS Great Britain on Thursday. The children enjoyed looking around the ship and finding out all the history about how the ship was made and how it was brought over to Bristol to become a museum. The children especially liked the talking toilet, the hard bread that you had to bang to get the weevils out of, the smells in the steerage compartment and steering the ship. We also had some workshops where we helped to finish the SS Great Britain before it launches and then the final activity we had was to dress up as Victorians and then wave the SS Great Britain off on her maiden voyage in July 1843. What fun we had!

Here is our overview for term four:

We had great fun this Wednesday with a visit from a local tennis coach. The children had a fantastic session with him where they learned the fundamentals of how to control tennis ball with a racquet. The children really enjoyed this activity and had great fun chasing their balls around the playground.

More clay fun!

We have been getting on so well this week with all of our work. All of our quizzes are finished now, which is amazing. The children worked so hard all week to complete their quizzes and I am so proud of them. We continued to develop our skills with clay this week as well. The children have been learning how to create interesting patterns on tile shaped clay ready for their design of their clay house next week. The children use the skills of, applying slip to the clay model to add pieces and they also learn to impress objects into the clay to make different shapes. The children are really looking forward to designing their own houses next week.

In our PSHE lessons this week we have been looking at the importance of having dreams and goals. The children spent some time thinking about gardens of their dreams. We then spent some time creating birds for our gardens of our dreams. It was a lovely activity where the children had to work collaboratively as a group to create a group of beautiful birds that would fill the gardens of their dreams.

We have had such great fun in our DT lesson this week. The children have had the opportunity to look and see how pivots, linkages and leavers are made. The children then had an opportunity to create their own linkages and make them move. Last week, the children created a designed their own monsters. They then took a tally chart on which of their two monsters their friends liked the best. This week they were able to take the winning design and create their moving monster with it using the linkages that were created a few weeks the children really enjoyed creating their monsters and making them move using the design brief that they had created the week before.

We had fun in our PSHE lesson this week. We have been looking at dreams and goals. The children were given a choice of four different goals to achieve. They had 10 minutes to try to achieve these goals and then perform them to the class. They were challenging and the children tried really hard to complete them. The goals were: learn the macarena, count to 20 in 2s in French, count to 10 in Mandarin Chinese or learn the first two verses of the Owl and the Pussycat. They had really good fun doing this and learning about how difficult some tasks are. 

In our DT lessons this term, we are looking at how to make moving mosters. The children have been looking at pivots and linkages. We had a go at making our own linkages and pivots in our lesson in preperation for making our.monsters in a few weeks time. Here are the results!

What an exciting first week we've had back after Christmas! The children have settled in well and are raring to go in our new term. We had the excitement of Bath Rugby come in on Friday to take the children for a session. This will be happening every Friday morning for this term up until half term. Just a reminder that PE sessions are on Tuesday and Friday this term. Here are some photos of the children learning to be excellent rugby players.

Just to say a great big thank you to all the parents who came to read with the children in our class on Thursday. The children really enjoyed listening to stories. We shared some lovely books and had a really fantastic time enjoying the wonder of reading lovely books.

We have been learning about algorithms in our computing lessons this week. Last week we had great fun guiding each other around the hall pretending to be robots. The children had a fantastic time making their friends go left, right, forwards and backwards. Today, we had a go at writing down some simple algorithms for our Beebots. The children then had a go at programming their Beebots to follow these instructions. 

This week is Anti-Bullying Week an we have been looking at the important theme of showing respect. We looked at the Anti-Bullying website and watched a video on what it means to respect people. We then acted out some scenarios, thinking about what was the respectful thing to do in that situation. The children had some great ideas on how to show respect.

What a great start back we've had! It's been an action-packed couple of weeks with lots of exiting learning, bonfire night, remembrance day, the carnival, odd socks day, the welly ramble - you name it, we've been doing it! 

In maths we have been learning to add two 2 digit numbers together! We have been using lots of conrete materials to help us understand this - see if your child can show you how to add 25 and 13 together! 

In maths we have been looking at creating different textures with our painting! We went into the playground looking for different textures to paint with to recreate a series of textures such as bumpy, smooth and prickly! 

We have been thinking a lot about our futures this week and the children had great fun thinking about their gifts and talents and how they might want to use these in future jobs. The children then had a go at drawing what possible jobs they might have in the future. here they are below.
