* Students selecting this course must register for course 248 and will be given the option to select to take it at the ACP level at the start of the course.

This course introduces students to the interdisciplinary study of international politics, with a contemporary and historical focus. Students explore, critique, and apply different approaches that guide changes and trends in world events since the end of the Cold War. Students discuss and analyze policy options for state and non-state actors, using case studies, scholarly articles, and government documents/data. A representative list of approaches and/or topics investigated in the course include: state sovereignty, international law, human rights, civic values and the realist and liberal paradigms, and a host of case studies and/or current events. There are two multi-week simulations in the course, with the second offering the opportunity to blend an understanding of concepts with policymaking when representing specific states.
