906 Music Theory & Aural Skills
Gr 9 - 12 | 6 Credits | Year-Long | 5x per Cycle
This year-long course provides a core body of music theory knowledge and training in aural skills for those wishing to improve their personal musicianship, music literacy, and music comprehension. This course is particularly helpful for those intending to minor or major in music in college. Course content centers on “common practice” traditional music theory (scales, keys, intervals, chords, scales/modes, figured bass, et al.) as well as instruction in sight-singing (solfege) and ear training (aural skills).

Students will engage in aural skill exercises exercising pitch and rhythmic development.

Students will analyze music as a reflection of societal, historical, and cultural emotions and experience.
