 Gr 9 - 12 | 6 Credits | Year-Long | 5x per Cycle

This course follows Latin 1 H and involves the study of more advanced aspects of the language. Emphasis on learning English vocabulary derived from Latin words continues to be an important activity.

Success Criteria:

• I can acquire additional elements of Latin vocabulary and grammar by building on my previous experience supported by regular review and explanation.

• I can integrate previously learned linguistic elements with newly acquired vocabulary and grammatical structures in translating Latin reading passages in activities that may require regular explanation and support, , and I am able to take part in this activity both through individual preparation and group collaboration.

• I can achieve accuracy in translating individual Latin sentences into English sentences that require increasingly complex modes of expression.

• I can translate individual English sentences into Latin sentences with support in summoning and applying advanced grammatical structures.

• I can identify, define, and supply with minimal errors English words derived from Latin words for use in English sentences as I build a more extensive English vocabulary rooted in the Latin language.

• I can learn and write out from memory on a weekly basis selected Latin sententiae, or mottoes, and I can produce evidence of this learning on semester assessments.

• I can read, discuss, and complete English narratives based on various aspects of classical culture and history, and I can supply the pertinent Latin terms that describe cultural concepts.
