WMS Turkey Promenade
Organized by the Wellesley Middle School Fitness and Health Department
Wednesday, November 27, 2024
The Turkey Promenade is a WMS whole school community service event that promotes the collective spirit of “giving.” On the day of the Promenade, advisories will deliver items they have collected for the women’s shelter Voices Against Violence, and the Wellesley Food Pantry.
There will be 3 “Promenades” as follows:
Advisory planning –7:45-8:35 A.M.
Grade 7 – 8:39-9:24 A.M.
Grade 8 – 9:28 to 10:13 A.M.
Grade 6 – 10:17 to 11:02 A.M.
Advisory wrap-up 11:06-11:21 A.M.
Each Promenade will include:
Advisories will be called down to Gym B from the main office to drop all donations off
Fitness walk outside around the school led by Mr Johnson/Ms McCarthy into Gym A
Parade around Gym A with themed spirit
Photo opportunities in Gym A
Return to Advisory classrooms
Students are being asked to bring in items from the attached “Donations List” before Wednesday, November 23rd. Items can be brought in between Nov 14th and the day of the event and stored in Advisory.
Highlight the goals of the day in a way that encourages positive participation. Emphasize:
1) giving to those in need,
2) taking responsibility to act,
3) making a difference by engaging in a cause greater than oneself.
Administration set the schedule for the day.

Turkey Promenade Checklist for Homeroom Teachers
* Organize your advisory in WMS Spirit Wear or a theme of your advisory’s choice.
* Share donation lists with students. Remind students to check the expiration dates on food items. **Expired items will be discarded**
*Watch the video created by the “Video Announcement club” during Advisory
*Begin collecting items from the list as soon as possible.
*Our school goal is to fill the truck

Any student can donate any item. All donations are welcome and appreciated. Additionally, these items are more in demand than others. We are trying to provide the most comprehensive range of goods to meet the needs of the shelter and pantry. Please remind the students to check the expiration dates on all food items.
