•Recycle items into categories. Describe each item by its category (paper, plastic, glass) and other characteristics.
•Laundry sort: Encourage him/her to label and describe the different items, e.g, “can you pass me the blue shirt with buttons, now tell me what to find!” Great opportunity to work on the possessive form in language, e.g., mom’s sock, dad’s shirt. You might also discuss different seasons (winter socks, summer shirt), and for what a clothing item is best suited, e.g., “It's waterproof for a rainy day.”
•Talk about getting dressed: “Do you want to wear your red shirt or your blue shirt?” “First, put on your socks, then put on your shoes.”
•Set the table missing one or more utensils to prompt your child to talk about what’s missing (e.g., What’s missing?...hmm...Who doesn’t have a spoon?).
•Have your child talk about what they need to set the table, e.g., four forks, four small spoons, etc. Describe as they set the table; use possessives (e.g., Charlie’s spoon) and number words.
