Nevertheless, we thought displaying all of them here would help provide a fuller picture of what kinds of events philosophy club participates in.

Philosophy Club and Freeman House Council invite you to join us for a Philoso-tea about thought experiments.

Department Open House

12:30-1:30 Wednesday (11/1) in FND 322

We hope that you will join us in discussing next semester's philosophy classes with all of our lovely faculty. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the major, or just engage in some lunchtime philosophizing!

How Free is Free Speech?

On Monday (10/3) from 1-2 pm in FND 322 we are collaborating with Pre Law Society and having a lunchtime event with Professor McGowan. Dessert will be served!

The event will focus on silencing and free speech acts. The topics discussed at this event will be relevant to philosophy classes, campus wide discussions, and to being cognizant of systems of hierarchy in the U.S. We really hope you will join us!

Regular Meeting, 9/25: We will be making cool philosophical door tags, discussing planning for the semester, having an informal philosophy discussion, munching on some snacks and (most importantly) getting to know you! We would love to see you there!

Philosophy Club has decided to do a collab with Slater this Friday and co-host their global tea!

The topic of the tea will be "How to Live the Good Life." The tea will take place September 22nd from 3-4:30 pm. Given that "the good life" is a wide-reaching philosophical topic, we hope that many of you will find this of interest. Slater will be providing refreshments (e.g. tea and cookies.) We hope that you will join us!

Friday, Sept. 15th: Field Trip to Tufts University!

Join us on as we head to Tufts to see Prof. McIntyre speak at Tufts University. The title of her talk is: "Hume vs Malebranche (and Hutcheson) on whether passions represent their objects." For more information, see the Tufts Philosophy Department Event Calendar.

We will take the 1 p.m. bus from the Chapel stop, so if you're interested in going, please meet us there.

Note: please make sure that you have either a punch pass or a bus token with you if you plan to return to Wellesley on the Peter, since we will be headed back after the last free bus. There are several restaurants near Tufts, if you would like to get dinner in Boston, but you can also order a bag lunch from Wellesley Fresh here.

Join us for our first meeting of the Fall! We're meeting on Monday, September 11th from 7 to 8 pm in El Table.

At this meeting, we will discuss what philosophy club typically does, talk about open e-board positions, and preview what events might be coming up this fall.

*El Table is in Founders near the Africana Studies Department. If you’re lost, head in the side of Founders by the parking lot and you’ll find us :)

Please join us for a tea session with Grace Yi-Ling Cheng '12/'14 on Tuesday, March 21! She will be sharing her post-graduation stories and her new book "Xin: Why Are We Dying", as epistolary memoir on why Asian American and Pacific Islander women ages 15-24 and 65+ are suffering the highest rates of depression and suicide.

Pre-Election Talk: Language and Feminine Power

Time: November 7th, 5:00-6:30pm at FND 322

Abstract: We will think about​ ​​the power of words and the power of women through time​, and how​ ​​language can be used to better articulate this feminine​ power.​​ ​We will look at women like St Teresa​ ​of Avila​, who challenged feminine stereotypes, norms, and societal expectations. We will meditate on the nature and source of this power, and why it disturbs, distresses, and, ultimately, dismantles traditional frameworks.

Professor Walsh will give a gallery talk on "Nasty Women: Then and Now" and Professor Matthes will serve as a judge for the Halloween costume contest! STAY TURNED!!!!!

The Philosophy Club cosponsors an event, "An Intimate Look at Race: Growing Up Biracial In A Racially Torn World" with the Wellesley Centers for Women (WCW)! Join us on October 25 at Wellesley College Clapp Library for an evening of conversation about biracial identity, family violence, and multiracial women in the media. The program will feature a book reading by Author Sil Lai Abrams followed by a discussion with WCW scholars.
