I am a Professor of French and Francophone Studies at Wellesley College where I specialize in Early Modern French culture and literature. My research focuses on theatrical practices, texts, and performances in seventeenth and eighteenth-century France, with recent articles and a current book-project on the effects of competition--between troupes and playwrights--on artistic production and literary reputation. At Wellesley, I devote half of my teaching load to introductory language courses, which has led me to publish on how to engage undergraduates in the study of French via digital humanities methods.
I amChief Editor of H-France Forum, leading a team of eight Issue Editors with the goal of showcasing recent and noteworthy scholarship in Francophone Studies. Since 2024, I have served as co-editor-in-chief, with Sylvaine Guyot (NYU) of the flagship journal of the Society for Seventeenth-Century French Interdisciplinary Studies, Cahiers du dix-septième. Since 2017 I have been Campus Director for the longstanding Wellesley-in-Aix study abroad program.
