Git is an open-source version control system that isย fundamentally relevant and empowering to research computing in many disciplines. ย Git is used at Wellesley, from personal workstations to mid-level facilities to high-performance computing clusters, and this session will explore the landscape of Git capabilities and tools on campus.ย GitHub is a web-based platform that allows storage and management of version-controlled content, utilizing Git and further enhancing teamwork and collaboration.ย This session pairs well with the Terminal workshop, although that workshop is not a prerequisite.ย This session will focus more on how and where Git is used at Wellesley, how to locate and connect with those tools using GitHub, and how to find support resources related to Git and GitHub on campus.

In preparation for the Git & GitHub workshop, attendees are requested to fill out this information request to help tailor the scope of the workshop and, if interested but strongly recommended, sign-up for a GitHub accountin case you don't already have one.ย If you have any questions, please ask!
Attendees may choose, but are strongly encouraged, to bring a Mac, Windows, or Linux laptop, including sufficient battery or charger.ย If you are a Windows user and choose to bring a laptop, you could consider setting up Git for Windows' Git BASH software as outlined in the terminal workshop preparation instructions.ย If you are a Mac user and choose to bring a laptop, you could consider running 'git' once from the Terminal to install Developer Tools on your Mac, if not previously done.ย
