Physical Education

What are we learning right now?

During the month of September, we are learning foot skills through our soccer unit. All students will learn the proper way to kick a short pass using the inside of their foot. We also practice dribbling while moving in open space. Since it is the beginning of the year, we are also learning about our rules and procedures.

Please send your students with close toed, well fitting shoes to PE. Students can always bring a change of shoes if they want to wear sandals, heels, etc throughout the rest of the day.

Maker Space

What are we learning right now?

Kindergarten:  Students have been working on fine motor skills through a variety of stations and activities.  They are using hole punches, practicing cutting different shapes, writing letters in rice, and building numbers using magnatiles.

First Grade:  Students have been challenged with creating the longest paper chain using only one piece of paper.  Students love incorporating a book into a challenge, so we have read Pete the Cat Goes Camping and students have been challenged with building a "tent" using different materials such as sticks, paper, toothpicks and tissue paper.  As students haven been learning about positive classroom choices, they have to build a model using cardboard and paper to display one of the choices they learned about.

Second Grade:  Since back-to-school means lots of opportunity to read a good book, the second graders have been challenged to build a platform that can hold the most books using only one piece of paper.  Teachers love apples, so the second graders had to try to build the tallest tower that could hold an apple.  We tried to beat the heat by building a boat using either one piece of paper or once piece of aluminum foil.  Students then counted how many cubes their boats could hold before sinking.

Art

What are we learning right now?

We are working on our square 1 art projects. Square 1 art is a school wide fundraiser were you will be able to purchase your kids art on coffee mugs, keychains, blankets and much more! Look forward to getting a fundraiser form in October or November, just in time for the holidays.

Kindergarten: Students create their very own scribble creature based off the book "More than a Scribble."

First Grade: Students are creating a special heart for their loved one after studying the artist James Dine.

Second Grade: Students are  looking at the artist Iris Scott then making Dogs that are in motion. They get a fingerprint and use a splatter paint technique.

Music

What are we learning right now?

In September, we are learning all about dynamics, beat, and rhythm in music! We will be learning songs and music games, and finding out how changing the dynamics could change the feel of the song! We will be learning/reviewing "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain" in 1st and 2nd grade, and for Kindergarten we will be using the song "Wash Wash Your Hands!"

Each grade will also show their knowledge and understanding of the above concepts through instrument playing and class discussion. We will also be having lots of musical fun!!!
