Leman Middle School is proud to be a community school! Don't know what that is? We will be highlighting their great work in this month's edition of the Charger Wire. Being a community school is an important piece of our climate and culture SMART goal at Leman Middle School. Both last year and this one, we wrote a goal to increase appropriate behavior at LMS, and in turn, help create a more positive learning environment. Last year, we had a lot to celebrate!
You can see our new goal below. We are again working on increasing attendance, as well as the use of Bolt Bucks to recognize behavior that shows the Leman Values. As positive behaviors increase, we hope to see referrals and suspensions decrease even further. The community school approach helps us reach our targets by supporting families with their students at home and in the community.
We hope you're having a cozy fall season. If you need anything, please reach out to our LMS team. We're here to help.

Students met their Bolt Bucks goal of 15,000 earned in September. Because of this, our deans Mrs. Shackelford, Mr. Serpas, and Mr. Diaz had buckets of ice water dumped on them by students! Students won the opportunity to participate by entering their Bolt Bucks into a raffle. Our deans are such good sports!

At Leman Middle School, each grade level is supported by a family liaison. The family liaison's role is to partner with families, school staff, and community partners to help parents/guardians in achieving goals that support their child's academic success. Family Liaisons are responsible for promoting student attendance, assisting with access and linkage to community resources, and facilitating parenting education and family engagement.

District 33 is a community school district, meaning all schools operate within a model that leverages strong partnerships between schools, families and the community. A community school is both a place and set of partnerships between the school and community resources. Although all schools in District 33 are community schools, no two look exactly alike. Each school is a reflection of the building's students, families, and community partners. As a community school, Leman Middle School has a community school team that includes a Community School Coordinator, Family Liaisons, Community Mental Health Clinicians, and After School Coordinators. School staff, in partnership with these teams, work with families and community partners to create and implement a shared vision of student and school success. There are four pillars of a comprehensive community school model:

Leman Middle School has a Community School Coordinator, Ciara Thomas, that oversees the operations of the community school model at Leman. She is part of Leman's administrative team and helps determine where community resources may be of support. She also works with community agencies to partner with the school.
Leman is proud to be a community school! It's focus on academics, services, supports, and opportunities leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities.

With the introduction of a new curriculum, your middle schooler might be struggling a little bit more with math this year as they learn new content language and strategies.
Why Eureka? “The curriculum goes beyond facts and formulas, teaching students to think about math conceptually. This helps students become not merely literate, but fluent in mathematics.”
Here are some ideas to help support your students at home:
As we begin the cold winter months, there are resources available for families who may need help putting food on the table. All District 33 students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. Other local food pantries are linked here: Food Pantry List.
LMS is proud to house the WeGo Together Community Market within our building. For more information, or to volunteer, please see the information on our district website, linked here: WeGo Together Community Market.
