Spring is on the horizon! When we turn the calendar to March, we welcome some of the busiest weeks that we have in a school system. Standardized testing season has arrived, transitions for our eighth graders and incoming sixth graders are picking up speed, and fun spring happenings like the musical, field days, and spring concerts keep us busy well into the evening!
In March, we will host the first of our Spring Parent Series meetings that we are holding on Zoom exclusively for our Leman parents. Experts will discuss a variety of topics that are relevant to the families of 11-14-year-olds. It is common for parents to have questions about their middle-school-aged children. This is a very unique and challenging time in the lives of our children, and we hope that you will join us to learn more about adolescence. March 15th's session will be about the brain development and sleep habits of our pre-teens. A Zoom link will be sent via text message.
We hope your family is able to spend some time together over Spring Break at the end of this month. If there is anything we can do to further support you or your child, please do not hesitate to contact me, or any member of my administrative team.
Sincerely,
Maggie Lay
Principal
This year, our theme focuses on "igniting" the fire and desire to learn inside each and every student. So many examples of this exist in the classrooms and hallways of LMS . Each month we will highlight one example to share with the larger community! Check out the great work of our math department below.
Ms. Mayton brings science to life with fun and interactive experiments. She wears a white lab coat to make the experience authentic. Students in 6th grade have dissected owl pellets, made slime, and built 3D models of molecules. Thank you Ms. Mayton for igniting the passion in our young scientists!

It is already time to start thinking ahead to next school year! As we look to the 2022-2023 school year, we are excited to once again give students the opportunity to "choose their path" in middle school exploratory by voicing their preferences for courses in the coming school year. Students will rank their choices in April during their Advisory class. Please remember that while we do our very best to make it happen, students do not always get the Exploratory that they have selected. Sometimes, due to when classes are offered or the number of students who select a course, we have to pick something different for your student. Rest assured that all of our Exploratory programming is relevant and engaging for our students, and your child will have the opportunity to learn something new no matter where they land!
Each student has two periods of Exploratory classes in their schedule. We have a wide variety of options for students to select from. Linked below are the explanations of the offered courses.
When Exploratory selection takes place in April, students will need to use their own log-in to the Home Access Center to select their preferred classes. Students will practice this in their Advisory class during the month of March.
The student log in for the Home Access Center is the same email address and password that students use to log into their Chromebooks. Check in with your child and make sure they know how to access the system. You can use that opportunity to explore the other information on the Home Access Center website with them, such as their grades and attendance information. If you would like to practice selecting Exploratory classes at home or you would like to check your child’s selection, please follow the directions linked below.
The LMS Announcements run every week. Stay up-to-date with currrent events and the latest important reminders happening at the school.
Is your child feeling a little queasy at school? Or maybe they need an ice pack? Chances are, they have had an opportunity to meet Jodi Neece or Deb Borges, our school health aides. Located in the health office inside our front office, Ms. Neece and Ms. Borges work hard every day to make sure that our students are healthy. From taking temperatures to monitoring student health plans, they are a great resource for our families when students don't feel their best! They are a tremendous asset to our building and we are grateful for them!
