Mr. Scrivanich, our Aeronautics teacher, is more than qualified to teach Aeronautics. Mr. Scrivanich started flying planes in 1976 and graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL in 1981. He became a flight instructor to aspiring pilots through 1984 and was hired at a commuter airline where he flew Captain. He was a pilot for Continental Airlines and then United Airlines as they merged. Mr. Scrivanich is proud of his experience as a Captain on a Boeing 777 until he retired in 2020.
Mr. Scrivanich has designed the curriculum to have a rotating learning schedule where students will have one day of academics and the next day for simulator use. There are seven J Velocity desktop simulators that provide different experiences in airplanes, engines, and airports. The simulators can also be programmed for different factors such as weather and time of day. The TV/2D2 RedBird simulators are similar to the desktops but there are "high performance airplane" programs that are equipped with the following landing gear options: retractable landing gear, variable pitch prop, and a 200 horsepower engine. The full motion simulator (MCX) has the same programming capacity as the RedBird simulators.
Although the flight simulator attracts students to take these classes, Mr. Scrivanich explains the importance of having an interest in learning to fly and pursuing a career in aviation. It's much more than a video game or arcade game.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in aviation, you will need to pass a written exam, oral exam, and perform maneuvers exam. The curriculum provided in our Aeronautics classes will prepare you for the written exam portion and catapult you toward your pursuit of a career in aviation.
