Campus Ministry facilitates a bereavement group called “Healing Hearts”. The group provides support to anyone who has lost a loved one. Our group allows us to share our struggles with other students who have experienced a similar loss. This group helps to deal with emotions which include anger, guilt, anxiety, fear, sadness and despair. We aim to meet once a month to participate in different activities. Some of our events include crafts, sharing in prayer, going on field trips and enjoying lunches together.

We value the importance that food and nutrition hold to ensuring students are prepared to learn each school day. Therefore, CORE Services established a meal and snack program funded through the Ontario Student Nutrition Program which is known to our school community as the Breakfast Club. The program offers a full breakfast complement three days each week and nutritious snacks throughout each day. Our breakfast portion is offered through a grab-and-go format, with snacks being served as necessary to students at any point in the school day. In all, this program is vital to meeting the needs of our student population and enriching the positive atmosphere of our school climate.

A GAY STRAIGHT Alliance (GSA) is a student-run club, which provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, striving to end homophobia and transphobia.
Our GSA unites 2SLGBTQ+ and allied youth to build community and organize around issues impacting them. The GSA is a forum to discuss how we can make social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice."

At. St. Joseph’s High School, our greatest strength is our diversity. The African Diaspora Club is an opportunity for all students in our community to come together to educate one another and promote racial and cultural equity. Through guest speakers, school events and charitable endeavours, the Diaspora Club aims to foster a support system that gives all students an opportunity to share their experiences, learn from others and create awareness of how we can make our school -and our world- a better, more inclusive, place to live.

The Yoga Club at St. Joe’s offers students the opportunity to strengthen the connection between mind, body, heart and spirit. Through breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation (dhyana) students can learn to quiet the mind and connect deeper with their emotional and spiritual bodies. The physical practise of yoga poses (asana) will benefit students by bringing strength, flexibility and improved body awareness into their lives. Studies show that when students practise yoga on a regular basis they are more confident, focused and balanced. Yoga has also helped to alleviate stress and reduce anxiety. Students can also benefit from this practise by using the lessons off the mat as well. By slowing down and observing the self, students can achieve more peace and harmony.
At St. Joseph High School we are empowered with knowledge and understanding that we all have mental health and recognize the collective responsibility to care for it.
Jack Chapters are groups of young people at high schools, colleges, universities, and community settings who work year-round to identify and break down barriers to positive mental health and make concrete change in their communities across Canada.
In order to maximize learning opportunities for our students here at St. Joseph’s, CORE Services provides after school learning support 3 days each week (days depending on need and availability). This support can be in the form of 1) direct teaching for any subject area, 2) necessary materials and supplies to complete class projects/assignments, or 3) assisting with learning set-up and design (organization, study schedules, and prioritizing assignment completion). In addition, Homework Club can also connect students for peer-tutoring arrangements upon request. Overall, this initiative furthers learning success while reducing the pressures associated with credit achievement that can sometimes occur for various students.

This club is designed to provide students with a safe environment to get help in completing math homework/assignments. Students get immediate feedback from an educator other than their classroom teacher, which provides them with a variety of problem-solving strategies, and explanations.
Students can also work with others to help complete their homework and tasks.

This program is designed to provide 1-on-1 help for struggling math students in grade 9 and 10 classes. ‘Peer Tutors’ consist of select grade 12 academic math students (peer tutors). Students get extra support and a variety of perspectives from fellow students who have successfully completed the courses, and all participants can share their experiences. The program also serves as a great opportunity for those students that may be interested in education and teaching as a potential career.
