Clinical Experience (Class Description)

You and a small group of colleagues will participate in a clinical experience in which you act as a campus mentors to Post Secondary Transition Program (PSTP) students with developmental

differences and delays.  This clinical practice will enable you to apply theories we are exploring in class, and provide a valuable, entry-level experience working with developmentally diverse youth. Your objectives are to:

(a) learn how to engage, interact, and communicate with adolescents who have a wide variety of developmental and cognitive delays, and

(b) mentor the PSTP students to increase their comfort with and inclusion on the Fisher campus.

Portions of some class meetings will be set aside for supervised mentoring; In addition, your group should (1) schedule time for a general discussion with the PSTS instructor to discuss

the students’ strengths and challenges and (2) plan a minimum of one “campus-wide” event

outside of our class time with PSTP

students. Your clinical group may plan this event together so long as everyone participates.

You may also plan several activities in which specific members of your group participate.
