Reading Goals

In 7th grade, we will read literature and informational text with the following goals in mind.

Students will build reading stamina.

Students will increase vocabulary.

Students will be able to find textual evidence, and use that textual evidence to support analysis of the article or story.

Students will determine the main ideas of a text, and be able to provide an objective summary of that text.

Students will analyze the interactions between individuals, ideas, and events in a text.

Students will interpret the meaning of words and phrases, including figurative and connotative meanings.

Students will analyze the impact of rhymes and other repetitions of sound, including alliteration, on a specific verse or stanza of a poem, section of a story, or drama.

Students will synthesize information from multiple texts to develop understanding of a topic.
