7th Grade Writing Goals
In 7th grade, students will complete writing tasks with the following goals in mind.
Students will increase writing productivity by producing a minimum of 130 words during the 10-12 minute writing activities.
Students will improve focus during writing to write well-structured arguments and analyses.
Students will learn and practice Sharing and Responding routines to understand how to write for an audience.
Students will learn the steps and routines for Revision to improve a completed piece of writing.
Students will make thematic comparisons across genres.
Students will be able to describe facts, explain concepts, and convince the reader of an opinion.
Students will compare and contrast characters’ perspectives on a narrative.
7th Grade Grammar Goals
In 7th grade, students will complete writing tasks with the following grammar goals in mind.
Students will review and practice writing a complete sentence, understanding pronouns, verb tense and mood, and punctuation.
Students will review and practice word etymology through the study of 40 Greek and Latin roots.
Students will review and practice key spelling strategies by studying 10 words per week.
