Lesson Title: Sensory Scary Story
Lesson Purpose:
The purpose of this lesson is to give students an opportunity to practice their sensory detail skills in a creative-writing setting. Because I encourage students to submit their work to our school literary magazine for publication, this is also an opportunity for students to understand authentic audience. Before we do this assignment, we have discussed the plot structure. While we do this assignment, students are learning about and implementing sensory details, pacing, dialogue, and literary devices like flashbacks, flash-forwards, and multiple plot lines. By the end of this unit, students really understand the value of literary devices when it comes to engaging our audience within our story.
