Task Description
Students were tasked with developing a ballista system with popsicle sticks, rubber bands, tape and cotton. Students were to design with limited resources and time in mind. Through building, testing and modifying the design together, students learnt to work with an engineering mindset and to work as a team.

Group Reflection
Working in a team was fun, although we had some small arguments. We have different strengths so we separated our work evenly. It was frustrating to search for useful information online about making this ballista. Since time was running out, we made a catapult instead -but we figured out how to make a ballista afterwards!
If we could try again, we would ask for more rubber bands! They are so useful for making launchers. The most enjoyable part was the testing and modifying because we could see the improvement happening. There was also one time when we shot it and it landed on top of the light!
Teacher's Comment
The STEM group were able to carry out the whole project very well. It was great to see students cherished the opportunity working as a team so they could help each other out and combine the strengths of each individual. They also took the initiative and did research on designing their ballista. It was evident to see the students were able to overcome the challenges they faced successfully. Overall the STEM group worked cohesively to design and built a successful ballista.
