Task Description
Students were tasked with developing a ballista system with popsicle sticks, rubber bands, tape and cotton. Students were to design with limited resources and time in mind. Through building, testing and modifying the design together, students learnt to work with an engineering mindset and to work as a team.

Group Reflection
Working as a team was not easy and we had many arguments about the design. But at last we finished our design and it was a very good one! It was also frustrating that we just needed a little more materials. We even tried negotiating with another group for some!If we could decide to change something, we would get a glue gun because that would save us using a lot of rubber bands, which we needed for a better ballista design.
The best part was the end when we won the competition with a good launch. It was not even our best launch, because we knew we had launched it further before.
Teacher's Comment
The STEM group were able to carry out the whole project very well. It was evident to see the students were able to overcome the challenges they faced successfully. Despite the arguments they had at the start, they learnt to communicate, cooperate with each other and work together as a team. They also modified their ballista and improved they design after trial and errors to give a better launch. Overall the STEM group worked cohesively to design and built a successful ballista.
