Task Description
Singing: Kookaburra
The task that students had to do was to sing a song in canon. Canon means a melody with one or more imitations of the melody played after a given duration. The initial melody is called ‘the leader’, while the imitative melody is called ‘the follower’. The follower must imitate the leader. Students have to concentrate on their own part and try not to be influenced by others. On the other hand, they have to aware of the others (tempo & pitch). Otherwise, the music cannot go fluently.

Student's Reflection
6C Ruby Chan (2)
I think it is not easy to do 2-part canon, we needed to cooperate with each other to sing our own part and to not to follow the other parts. Although it’s hard to do, we didn’t give up, and we often practised at recess. Therefore, we succeeded finally.

I am so happy that I could have a chance to sing 2-part canon with my friends. At first it was a little bit difficult for us because it was the first time for us to sing like this. Sometimes we even messed up the voice, but we practiced hard and also did well during the performance. All the classmates enjoyed it too! I hope we can sing together again.

I am so glad that I got the chance to sing 2-part canon with the girls. Thank you Ms. Li for choosing us to be the 6C, 2-part canon singers. Every day, we practiced our singing and got better and better with Ms. Li’s guidance. Finally, we succeeded in singing as well as we could. We were really overjoyed.
6C Sophie Ng (18)
I am proud of my 2-part canon singing because my classmates and I have practiced hard for it. When we’re singing the “Kookaburra” 2-part canon, I couldn’t stop myself from following the other’s singing. But after weeks of practicing, I improved a lot! I was able to sing beautifully and not follow other’s part. Sure enough, “Practice makes perfect”
6C Jolie So (23)
I had never sung in 2-part canon before, so I was so excited. After I sang the first time, I thought that was very easy because you only had to sing your own part. But when I got a partner, I think that it became a bit harder because sometimes we followed the other part. In the end, we did a good performance. I think I would like to try to have a harder challenge in the future.
6C Claudia Tang (25)
I think 2-part canon is not very easy as we have to cooperate with others and adjust our
voice. However, we can learn how to self-improve and do better. I love to practice with my classmates. We feel happy for joining this work.
Teacher's Comment
They sang the melody in correct pitch and rhythm. The sound balance was quite good, and their voices were nice. I appreciated that they practised a lot in the recess. Well done!
