Task Description
In this P6 Language Arts class, our classic book, “A Christmas Carol”, has a main character, Scrooge, who is a mean-spirited miser and very unhappy. In our Reflective Journal we asked students to reflect on why he is this way by writing on what they have in their lives to be thankful for. This also reflects on the core value of Respect, which we want our class to be more aware of.

Reasons to be Happy
Yesterday, the past, tomorrow and in the future, I am honoured to live in this world. I am thankful to have friends, family and my pet. Also, I am happy to have my favourite toys; these are Ting dolls, they are easy to take anywhere and can even be my key chain. However, the big ones get dirty easily and are very expensive.
There are other reasons I have to be happy; I feel so blessed to have enough food to enjoy. My favourite food is pizza, curry noodles and snacks. Also, I am delighted that I have hobbies. My hobby is drawing and making handicrafts. It is fun as I can make anything I want which appeals to me. I have many clothes too, like jackets, t-shirts, pants and hats. Lastly, I have my religion which makes me feel so calm.
I am thankful to celebrate festivals with my friends and family. My favourite festival is Christmas because we can receive gifts and the atmosphere is enjoyable. Also, I can taste all the food that I like best and play my favourite games. My favourite is a fishing game. I know we should not spend too much time on games though. It is a pleasure to have my freedom to do the things I like in life!
Student's Reflection
In the Language Arts class I have learned to be more grateful. I also realized that people have their own strengths and talents, and I think my strengths are very special. To research this I used an app and asked my teacher’s opinion. This task taught me about the core value of Respect, as I realize I have some short-comings but can now respect them as part of me.
If, however, I had the chance to do this again, I would look more carefully into my grammar mistakes and also find more key words to make my writing better.
Teacher's Comment
Jessie really made me feel she is grateful for her life. She shows appreciation for her time in this world -the people, the things, and the love she has from her friends and family. The core value of Respect for what she has and who she loves was well demonstrated.
