Task Description
Cody is reading ‘A Christmas Carol’ by the famous author, Charles Dickens, in the Language Arts course. The book mainly focuses on a man called Scrooge, who is bitter and lacks sympathy towards people around him.
In this lesson, we looked at Scrooge’s past, where he refuses to marry the love of his life and chooses his career over love. The students were able to witness the impact of this decision on Scrooge’s miserable personality. As an extension to the discussion in class, students had to make a list of things they appreciate and make them wealthier.

1. I am thankful to my mum because she cooks meals for me and helps me with my homework. She also tries to make me happy again if someone mistreats me.
2. I am thankful to my dad because he works hard to save money so I can go to a better school and wear beautiful clothes.
3. I am thankful for the lady that I saw on the bus. She knew that I was sleepy and gave me her seat, although she was tired too.
4. I am thankful that I have many friends to play with. I don't feel lonely at all like Scrooge from 'A Christmas Carol'.
5. I am thankful that I can learn many languages, which will help me communicate with others if I go to other countries.
6. I am thankful that I can find something I like because I have a specific goal in mind that I want to achieve soon.
7. I am grateful that I can walk and move easily because I know some people cannot move due to poor health. Thus, it is difficult for them to participate in physical activities.
8. I am thankful that I know how to draw because when I see beautiful views I can draw them and share these beautiful drawings with others.
9. I am thankful that I met great teachers because they taught me to know amazing things about this world.
10. I am thankful that I have a house to live in because I can't begin to imagine the feeling of living under a bridge or sleeping on the floor.
Student's Reflection
I have learned many new words. Also, I have learned some morals, like we need to be kind and generous to others. I am most proud of this work because I discovered many things that I am thankful for and realized how lucky I am compared to some children, who may not have access to all these things. I researched on the internet, so I found out that some people in the world are underprivileged. I learned the value of ‘Care’ during this task because I have discovered that my friends and those who help me are important, so I will help them back by taking care of them. If I get a chance to do this task again, I will write more about my companionship experiences with my friends and family.
