Task Description
Students learnt the story, “Three Monks, No Water” in their Cornerstones book and had to apply the vocabulary items and phrases to write a sequel to the story. Hailey added another character, the lazy monk, in her sequel and elaborated what happened after the fourth monk came.

The Fourth Monk Came!
After the last experience, the three monks had an unhurried life and worked hard together. But later, someone came to the temple and made a mess.
One day, a lazy monk came to the temple and he always took his blanket with him as he was sleepy all the time. The three monks were overjoyed that the lazy monk came and welcomed him blissfully.
Soon, the three monks found that the lazy monk always littered and they always needed to clean up after him.
“The lazy monk is driving me crazy!” The three monks bellowed together and threw an angry glance at the lazy monk.
Then, the rubbish caused many rats to come to the temple and the temple was burned by the evil rats again. The truth leaked out; the rats had bumped into the burning incense sticks, and the sticks dropped on the rug in the temple. In no time, the whole temple burst into flames.
After a while, the three monks noticed what happened and there was smoke swirling around their heads. They dashed back to the temple and used the water from the vat to quell the fire. After quelling the fire, they were bone-tired and out of breath, but they still got another mission.
Then, they had a fight with the wicked rats; punches and kicks were thrown. The temple was overflowing with the dead bodies of the hateful rats and the four monks were heart-broken because the draperies of the temple were burned to pieces, and the furniture was damaged after the first and second fires.
At last, the four monks moved the temple to beside the stream. The fourth monk also learnt that he should be more responsible. For example, he should always tidy up and be careful. After the experience, the four monks changed a lot. The lazy monk became more hardworking, and the three monks hoped that he could really turn a new leaf.
Student's Reflection
I feel proud of this piece of writing because I tried to use more phrases and vocabulary than I learnt before. I like the part that the four monks had a fight with the wicked rats because I think it was quite funny. And the part I dislike is how the monks quell the fire, because I think I could have been more creative in that part.
I want my classmates to notice how important I think it is to be responsible, when they look at my work. If I had a chance to do this writing over again, I would like to add more details to the part about how the four monks quelled the fire.
Teacher's Comment
Hailey mastered the meaning and could apply vocabulary items and phrases in parts of the story (e.g. when the monks drove away the rats). She also could recall some details from the original story to form her sequel. She may elaborate on how the monks put out the fire if she had to edit her story again. Keep going, Hailey!
