Task Description
In the Language Arts class, Anson is reading a book called ‘A Christmas Carol’. It is about a rich man who is very bitter towards other people and life in general. Our lesson focused on the question, ‘How can we be more grateful for what we have and focus less on what we don’t have?’ As a consolidation task, students had to write about things they appreciate and cherish in their lives.
Student's work
6A (10) Anson Lau
If I had a choice to take any four forms of wealth, I would choose my family, friends, love and money. I believe family members and friends are the best supporters. They are always there for you when you get into trouble or feel sad. When you feel low, your families and friends will always encourage you and try their best to cheer you up. Also, as long as you are around wonderful friends and family members, you are always looked after.
Love is essential because it makes you feel kind towards everyone. You are able to help more needy people with a loveable personality. Lastly, money is also practical. With money you can have things to eat and stay alive. Also, you can take care of your family and friends with your money. By taking care of them, they will respect you.
Lastly, I would choose some good friends who always do good things for me. I should learn from these friends and respect them.
Student's Reflection
I learned that I needed to cherish all these amazing things that I have now, such as my work. If I want to have these four forms of wealth later in life, I should start to nurture them from now. My proudest moment about this piece of work is my realization about the fact that friends and families are real and important now. I researched on the internet the value of the four things that I chose, and that is how I discovered that families and friends always come first. The value that I learned in this task was ‘Care’. I learned that we must take care of friends and family if we want to be part of their life forever.
If I could change one thing about my piece work, it would be to write, ‘cherish good friends who can teach me nice things, so I can improve myself’, instead of, ‘cherish some friends’.
Teacher's Comment
Anson has done a great job appreciating the things he has in life. Through his writing, he truthfully shows respect to his family members and friends. Through his reflection, Anson shows that it is essential to show respect for the things he has in life now -before it gets too late. I feel that understanding something so in-depth shows that Anson has a great understanding of the core value ‘Care’.
