Task Description
Starry Night is one of the most popular artworks of Vincent Van Gogh. Students learnt the life story of Van Gogh and then explored his bold painting style with oil pastels. Students were encouraged to try to observe his painting by themselves, put themselves in the artist’s mind and soul, to feel what it was like to paint like Van Gogh.

5E (8) Kaylyn Fung
Student's Reflection
The drawing shows a cool, windy night. I am standing on a hill, far away from the crowded city. These lines make up the scene where I am trying to find peace and calm.
Teacher's Comment
Kaylyn could learn from the painting style of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”. It was brimming with whirling clouds, shining stars and a bright crescent moon. She created a sense of movement with the use of wavy lines and heavy brushstrokes. Instead of the peaceful village with a cypress tree, Kaylyn drew her favourite character “little prince” that gave us a feeling of brightness in her work
