Task Description
In Language Arts class, Isabel is reading the classic children's book, 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe'. The story is about four children who accidentally step into a magical world and help the true and good leader, Aslan, to save Narnia.
In this class, we read about how food plays an essential role in stories. For example, in the story ‘Sleeping Beauty', apples were used to poison sleeping beauty. In this class, we compared two foods used in the story: a meal at the Beaver's house was prepared with love and showed solidarity as everyone came together to eat that meal; and the Turkish delight offered to Edmund by the White Witch, with evil intentions.
As a consolidation to the task in class, students had to discuss a memory of a particular food, and how they felt towards the person who prepared this dish for them.

A Special Memory Of food
I have a special memory of ice cream. Not just because it is delectable, but also because it makes me think of my warm family. The first time I ate ice cream, I was three. My family were all in the dining room, and they were all over the moon to see me licking the ice cream. My parents took a variety of hilarious photos.
Ice cream is considered an essential food in my family. There is a traditional ice-cream machine in my grandma’s home! The first ice cream that I ate was made from the ice- cream maker. When I first tasted it, I knew I would like it because it is so sweet and icy.
My great grandparents and my other ancestors had jobs selling ice cream; it was their career. Ice cream helped them to survive. Every time I hear the word or see the phrase ‘ice cream’, I always think of my family and how hard they have worked in their lives.
Student's Reflection
I have learned that even things you use every day can help you recall memories. Moreover, I have learned to respect other people's memories, as we all have different thoughts. During this task, I felt proud that I had the courage to share the stories from my childhood without getting shy. Additionally, I am pleased that I am willing to share this beautiful experience with my classmates.
I asked my mum if I could borrow a photo from our family album of the ice-cream maker. My grandma told me the history of it, so whenever I see the ice-cream maker, I remember my grandma. I learned responsibility and commitment. I learned to be responsible by doing my homework intently, and I was committed to hand in this assignment on time. If I got a chance to do this work again, I would change the vocabulary I used to simplify the words. I would also add some descriptions of how the ice-cream maker looks.
Teacher's Comment
Isabel was able to demonstrate the value of the ice-cream maker in her family. By discussing the history of it, Isabel showed appreciation for her ancestors and thanked them for their hard work. Through her words she was able to express the strong bonding that her family shares and how a food unifies them.
