Task Description
Urania and Class 4C had to answer some questions on the core value of Perseverance. This is one of the values we have been teaching to P4 through the classic book, “The Sign of Four”, where Sherlock Holmes has to persevere to solve the puzzling crime. This task was an extension of a class where Holmes is faced with a mystery that started long before the investigation, far off in India. He must keep trying to solve the seemingly impossible.
Student's work
4C (21) Urania Mak
I am finding it hard to persevere in my piano and violin lessons. This is because there are many very difficult skills involved. Although I keep trying, I am finding it so hard to succeed.
The reason I started learning music is that I saw someone playing the piano, and it looked so much fun. I joined a piano class after that. Later, I saw someone playing violin and I asked my piano teacher to teach me that too.
One of the benefits of persevering in music is that I can play it beautifully when I grow up and perform it to other people. They will be shocked! Also, maybe I could teach it to others.
I can keep doing it until I succeed. If I don’t know something, I can always ask others. I won’t get distracted, and I won’t be afraid to fail.
Student's Reflection
I have learned that I need to persevere. I am proud that I can remember things about why I learned piano and violin five years ago. I only needed my memory and a pencil and paper to make this reflection happen. The core value is Perseverance in this class, and I learned the real meaning of that. However, if I had a chance to do this piece over again, I would add a sentence to encourage myself.
Teacher's Comment
Urania Mak of 4C showed a good understanding of core value of Perseverance, and why this value is important. She used the example of her music studies. Music is something that takes a lot of time and patience to master, and I am sure that Urania will not give up easily.
