Task Description
Natalie has been reading the classic children’s book, “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” in Language Arts. During that lesson, we talked about temptation. We have had a class discussion about temptation, and also ways to resist it. After the lesson, Natalie was asked to write about if the White Witch was trustworthy or not, and how Edmund can resist temptation (the things that the White Witch offered).
We hope that after this task, students can learn to resist temptation more easily and understand that sometimes, we have to sacrifice something in order to say no to temptation.
Student's work
4B (17) Natalie Liu
You can never trust the White Witch, although she is full of magical power. The Witch is not a human being. She is tall and beautiful, but her mind is full of evil and negative plots. She is also arrogant and cruel. The Witch can deceive others that she is kind and gentle, as she did to lure Edmund, but actually the Witch will never do anything good for the world or for human beings.
Edmund must realize the fact and resist the temptation from the Witch. He should immediately go back to the house and tell his siblings and the old professor what he has encountered in Narnia. With the wise analysis from the professor and support from his siblings, he can easily get away and forget the temptation. That is the essence of a family. Edmund will never feel alone, but instead, because of human love, the family together can eventually find a better solution to protect themselves against the evil witch.
Student's Reflection
I have learned the importance of imagination reading and how to make an analysis in this class. I am proud of my concentration and perseverance during this work. I must be determined to concentrate in reading and resist the temptation to play my favourite video game. I succeed -but not easily! I did a lot of extra work, including searching information from the internet, watching the movie, collecting ideas from my dad and brother and summarizing different thoughts before each final submission of my work. After I finished this task, I think that family love and forgiveness should be the most important among our core values. Love and forgiveness combined with team spirit of the family would be invincible and maximize the bravery of the siblings.
Teacher's Comment
Natalie has demonstrated well that she can analyse the situation between Edmund and the White Witch very well. She has also shown her understanding of how we should resist temptation and the importance of the role of family in doing this. Natalie is good at applying her own experience in the reflection and showing a strong linkage between the story and her daily life.
