Task Description
P4 Language Arts is reading the classic children’s book, ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’. The story is about four children who accidentally step into a magical world and help Aslan, the lion, in order to save Narnia.
During the lesson students discussed whether the characters should act responsibly and stay to help the Faun, or care for the safety of the family and therefore leave Narnia.
At the end of the lesson, students were asked to write a letter to express their opinion based on the discussion in class.

Dear Peter,
Hi, I know it is hard to pick Susan (who chose to leave Narnia because she cares for the safety of her siblings) or Lucy (who chose to stay in Narnia because she felt she is responsible for putting Tumnus in danger). However, I think you should pick Susan.
Here are my points: first, Susan didn’t want you to die. She didn’t want to lose any family members, and I think she is being careful because the beaver might be on the side of the White Witch; secondly, although Lucy felt she was responsible for Mr. Tumnus, if she stayed everyone would have to stay because Susan didn’t want her to go alone and get in danger. Susan is responsible and caring to her siblings.
Remember, beware of Edmund!!
Love,
Courtney
Student's Reflection
From the class, I learnt that I should be looking at things from all directions (perspectives) when helping people to make a decision. I also learnt about integrity and respect. I need to be honest with my feelings and to respect others.
I am very proud of my work because I was able to give Peter advice on the good and the bad side of both Lucy and Susan, so that Peter can make a decision himself. If I could do this reflective journal again, I would like to think of more points and share more of my feelings in the work.
Teacher's Comment
Courtney did a wonderful job at giving advice to Peter. It was not an easy task, since both values stand out in people’s minds. When we give advice, we tend to be very passionate about our decision and can forget that the main focus is to help.
That is why I appreciate Courtney’s work. Not only did her arguments show her understanding of the topic, but she also presented them in a kind and caring way. Good job, Courtney!
