Task Description
In this writing, Cherria did research on another animal. She chose manatees, and she jotted down the facts about manatees in her writing outline. During class, we discussed what other students chose for their writings and shared their findings. This task is an extension of the textbook letters, “Dear Mr. Blueberry”. Cherria was asked to write a short letter about another sea creature she saw in her pond, in her own words and drawings.

Dear Mr. Blueberry,
How are you? Thank you for your e-mail. I want to tell you about the manatee that I saw in my pond! Last night, I heard something in my pond. I stopped drawing and I ran downstairs. Then I saw a manatee! He told me that he was a relative of the elephant, and that it was known as a type of sea-cow. He did an aquatic somersault and I felt amazed! I kept looking at him, and I found that he looked like a big, grey ball. After three minutes, I was riding on him! I guessed he was tired, so I secretly gave him some salmon and leaves, but he said he likes eating water grass instead. After that, I told him that I had some mangoes in my basket, and I wanted to share with him! The manatee and I enjoyed eating the mangoes together. Lastly, I gave a name for him -Stone. Do you like this name?
Please send me more facts and details about manatees. I have so many questions in my mind! When is he here again? I think we shall meet a mermaid together!
Love,
Cherria
P.S. Stone says hello to you, because he is starting his migratory journey soon!
