Task Description
In P.2, students are reading the book ‘The Giving Tree’. The story revolves around the Tree who never ceases to help and care for the boy; and the Boy who spends most of the time asking things from the Tree, right until the end when they finally just enjoy each other’s presence.
During class, students discussed the generosity of the Tree. They then connected this to their daily lives to appreciate those that help them at school.
This task is an extension of the lesson where students made a card to appreciate those people.

Student's Reflection
Through this lesson, I learned to thank people around me who helped me, like the janitors in my school. I also learned about integrity and perseverance in this task. I know I shouldn’t make up stories when I share my thankfulness with them, so I have to think long and hard about what happened. I am proud of my work because I spent a lot of time on details in my drawings. I did not give up even though it was difficult to draw.
Teacher's Comment
Grace did a fantastic job at showing appreciation to the janitors at school. She gave her heart-felt thanks by recalling a specific incident, and was able to articulate herself so well in reporting the incident. Her story reminded us that although it could be daunting to be in a new and big environment, a kind act can make us feel right at home. Thank you Grace and Ms. Kong!
