Task Description
In this unit, Elkie and the class read about the movements of animals. They also learned about the body parts of different animals and the purpose of using labels in helping readers to understand the text.
This writing task was one of the consolidation tasks of this unit. Students were asked to create their own species, label the body parts and write about them. In this task, students were encouraged to draw their new species creatively. They could also label any body parts that they thought their readers should know about and then write about how their species uses that part.
Student's work
1D(09) Elkie Chung
This is a special sea animal.
This is its tusk. This is its mouth. This is its tail.
These are its eyes.
It uses its tusk to connect its brain with the environment in the ocean.
Student's Reflection
I enjoyed working on this writing because I can learn about different kinds of animals. I did very well in drawing my own creature, writing about it and labelling its body parts. I hope you will like my special sea animal!
Teacher's Comment
Elkie has put a lot of effort into creating and presenting her special sea animal to her classmates. She also showed a good understanding of the content of this unit and knew how to label her creature to help readers understand her text. Well done, Elkie!
