Approaching the end of Creature Features (a unit in students’ textbooks) students were asked to write an article on an animal of their choice. Throughout the unit, different texts were read and discussed in class. They were of different genres, but all centered on the theme of “creatures”.

This informative writing requires students to give facts and details. With the scaffolding, students were able to handle this writing project well. They were asked to gather information, and with the help of a graphic organizer, they put their ideas down in categories, which helped to enrich the writing in a structured way. This writing serves as a good roundup for the entire unit.

Jayden did a good job on researching for this writing. He was able to find relevant details, and what’s more, he endeavored to write more than requested. He also excelled in putting ideas together in an organized way. His work is promising.
