Task Description
In Language Arts class, Ava is reading the book, ‘The Boy Who Cried ‘I Promise’.
The story is about a boy who keeps breaking his promise to his friends and ends up losing friends.
In this class, we read about how Jonah didn’t keep his promise, and how Jonah didn’t have integrity. The class explored and discussed how they show integrity in their daily lives – by keeping their promises and taking responsibility of their actions.
This task is a consolidation of what was discussed in class. Students had to describe a situation where they had made a promise to someone, and how they fulfilled their promise.
Student's work
1A (5) Ava Cheung
What I say, I will do.
I got a seedling from school in November last year. I promised myself that I would plant the seedling and monitor its growth.
After 3 months of regular watering, putting it out in the sunlight, fertilizing and keeping it away from the bad weather, the seedling finally started to bloom. I was so delighted to see the results.
Student's Reflection
I learned how different values help someone become a better person. I liked my drawings in this particular piece of work. My work helped me reflect on my own commitment and how I should always take responsibility to get things done. If I got a chance to this piece of work again, I would draw more colourful pictures and provide more examples about how I keep my promises. In this class, I learned about the importance of commitment, care, and responsibility. These are the values that reflect through my work.
Teacher's Comment
Ava was able to grasp the concept of the value of Integrity. Through her phenomenal artwork, she was able to showcase an example of how she kept her promise and, at the same time, adapt the value of care by looking after a plant. Well done Ava, for sharing a glimpse of your beautiful plant growing journey.
