Friday Letters

Dear Parents,

As another exciting school year begins, your child will be writing a letter to you each Friday to tell you what they have learned and done in school. Please write back to your student on the reverse side of the letter and return it to school. Sometimes your child may write to a sibling, grandparent, neighbour or friend. Each child will save the letters to be bound into a book at the end of the year. These books are such treasures, filled with memories and examples of your child's writing growth.

Thank you in advance for all of your support with this project!

Sincerely,

Ms. Gonyou

Dear Parents,

This year, each student in Grade 4 is being challenged to memorize 100 Scripture verses! That’s 10 a month! Please feel free to join your child in this endeavour as it is an amazing opportunity to hide God’s Word in our hearts. What we memorize becomes part of us in a way that what we only read doesn’t.

The verses the students are to memorize are found printed in their planners. They can choose any 10 verses each month but must choose verses from the month we’re currently in. Additionally, the verses should have some meaning to them so that, if asked, the student could explain their choice. (For example, choosing a verse like Genesis 15:9 - The Lord answered, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a she-goat, three years old, a ram three years old, a turtle dove and a young pigeon,” doesn’t help the student’s faith journey.)

Students may choose to recite the verses all at once or verse by verse. I highly recommend memorizing passages together, if available. For example, if August 17th has Ephesians 6:10- ”Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.” and August 18th has Ephesians 6:11 -”Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil” and August 19th has Ephesians 6:12- For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” and August 20th has Ephesians 6:13 -Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” it would be the most beneficial to memorize all of these together.

Students are encouraged to do all 10 each month, but to not give up if they are only able to complete some of the verses in a month. Part of your child’s mark in Bible will be related to their ongoing completion of this memory work.

Thank you for working with your child to hide God’s word in our hearts!

Blessings,

Ms. Gonyou
