Another great evening out on the drive n dine for July.

Tony and Linda found a little gem of a pub. The Windmill at Littleworth situated between Cowfold and Partridge Green. Most of the attendees had never been to the pub before and all agreed it was a great venue. 

Many thanks to Tony and Linda . I am sure we will visit again.

April Newsletter

Welcome to the April Newsletter and the start of this years events. Its time to clean off the winter’s dust from cars, bikes and trucks and to get out and use them.

The first club event is the Friday Ramble on the 3rd April – what I hope will be a regular first Friday event over the summer. We will be going back to Torque Moto Café outside of Horsham, I will find a different route to get there that avoids the dual carriageways where possible. Meet at B&Q car park, Burgess Hill for 11.00.

The next club night on the 14th April is also our AGM. It is important that we get together as there is a need to think about the roles of Chair and Events Coordinator as David and I will not be continuing as we are. As the club gets busier and the show more successful it is time for us to move on and allow others to do it differently.

After this we have the club breakfast on the 19th which will now be coordinated by Tony and Sharon Pannett. I will share details in an email shortly.

On Sunday 26th April we again have the Brum Brum Brunch and the national Drive It Day. For those wanting to join me for a run over to Ticehurst lets meet at Heath Vets at 9.30. As ever it will be at Austin 7 speed which seems OK for most of you.

Hi D n Diners  Our official summer season starts in April with a visit to the Frankland Arms in Washington. This will be on Tuesday 28th April. We do not need to pro order but they have asked us to arrive for 630 for orders  I must have numbers. Please email me if you wish to attend. You will not get a quick confirmation as we are away on hols but I will catch up on my return

This will be followed by our first ever club stand on the 3rd May for the Historic Commercial Vehicle Run, again at Heath Vets. We will be there from 9.30 until about 1.30, so drop me a line if you want to bring a car to join us, we hope to be able to accommodate everyone

March Newsletter

I hope you are keeping well and have started to think about getting your cars, bikes and trucks ready for the year ahead. Its only a few weeks before the first events of the year are due to happen with the Plough meet on Sunday the 29th March and our first Friday Ramble on the 3rd April. Already I have been out on the bike, taking advantage of those early Spring days.

A reminder that the next Club Night, on Tuesday 10th March is again at the Friars Oak at 7.30.

David is now taking bookings for the show on the 14th June and I can see we are getting regular requests from people wanting to get a place. Don’t miss yours! We also seem to be getting a good response from traders which is essential to it covering its costs.

I have spoken to Heath Vets and they have again agreed to us using their forecourt for the Historic Commercial run on the 3rd May. We will have a club stand there from 9.30 onwards. I am not sure how long or what will happen, but it seems to have attracted a varied range of participants that should look good as they puff down the hill. Please book a place with me (we have about 20 spaces) so we can be sure people get into the site.

I will try and get the other events we hear about onto the calendar on the website, something that Ian has offered to maintain for me as I do struggle with it as well as everything else.

AGM

This is the formal notice that we will be holding the club AGM at our monthly meeting on the 14th April at 8.00 at the Jack and Jill. It is also traditionally our first night out with the old vehicles so do dust them down and check your lights.

Club Night – Change in venue

I heard today that the new owners of the Jack and Jill have closed the pub for about six weeks so they can refurbish it. This means that we have had to change our venue for the February and March Club Nights.

I have booked the conservatory at the Friars Oak, London Road, Hassocks from 7.30 for both the 10th February and the 10th March and we can review the situation ahead of the April meeting.

We visited them last year on a Drive n Dine which went down really well. If you want to order a meal please do so at the bar when you arrive and they will bring it to you.

I note that Tony has booked us space for a meal at the Friars Oak the following week (17th Feb) as the Drive n Dine venue. I did send this round a couple of weeks ago.

 Club Subs

It is once again time to renew your club membership. Fred and Judith are ready and willing to take renewals and new applications either in person at the next couple of club nights or you can send your £15 by bank transfer and telling them you have done it. Please do tell them if you have changed email or phone numbers as I am aware there have been a number of changes in the last year as people drop their old landlines.

As always we are very keen to welcome new and returning members so please do encourage others to join us.

 Wheels Through the Years

Things are moving ahead at full speed for the show on the 14th June. Please do email to tell David if you are coming and what you want to show as already we are getting a good response from exhibitors and traders that is well ahead of this time last year.

As you know this is happening at the same time as the Summer Fair run by the Town Council in St John’s Park. As Mid Sussex Radio will be supporting the other event we will be arranging our own entertainment which will include live music from local musicians. Once again we are stepping up what we are offering in the show and hopefully increasing the reach and profile of the club.

 Brum Brum Brunch

Ian, Ann and Carl will be restarting their Brum Brum Brunch on the 22nd Feb – 10.30 in Ticehurst.

 Finally can I thank Tony and Linda for organising the annual dinner at The Fox. I have hear that it was a great evening enjoyed by all. I look forward to next year.

Happy New Year

I have been thinking about the year ahead and what we might want to do as a club. Here is where I am at so far -

Wheels Through the Years, 14th June - This year we want the show to be better than ever and so have decided to take the plunge and put on live music and entertainment in the arena area. Hopefully this will help make us stand out. There is going to be more involved in arranging the show so in January I am going to start pulling together a team to support David so he can focus on making it a special event. 

Vets at the Vets, 1st November - We will again be looking to the end of the year to support the Veteran Car Run as it comes through Burgess Hill. This has rapidly became a fixture in the town despite the weather and late date. There has been a suggestion that we set up a stand for the Historic Commercial Vehicle Run on the 3rd May – are you interested?

Monthly Events

We will be continuing our regular programme with Club Nights (2nd Tuesday), Club Breakfasts (3rd Sunday), Drive n Dine (4th Tuesday) and Brum Brum Brunch (most 4th Sundays). Given the support I will continue the Friday Rambles and try and get a regular pattern for them – 1st Fridays looks promising, to start in April on Good Friday

I was wondering about a new event – Two ‘Weald’ Fridays as a way of getting a few of the club bikes out on the road. If there is interest I am happy to kick it off to see what happens. It would be good to get the old Sportster out once in a while.

Other events

Look out for details in future newsletters but we will be supporting Drive-It Day on the 26th April and other local shows through the year. The final question is reflecting back on my Christmas note – do we look to setting up a meet on New Years Day in 2027?

Your thoughts and suggestions always welcome, after all it is your club, I just try and make things happen.
