HiAs I expected enough has been happening that it is time for an update email covering upcoming events. For the sake of brevity I will not repeat detail that went out two weeks ago and can be found under Chairs Chat on the website. We had 42 people at the club night on Tuesday, a really good turn-out for a club with 70-odd members. We discussed the events to come and David filled us in on the show preparations which are ahead of this time last year with 38 stalls, 200 vehicles and five sponsors.Bobby Pryor, Radio 2 travel presenter, has taken over the Saturday afternoon show on Kent, Sussex and Surrey radio and in her first show last week she started a new feature on local car clubs. I have been invited to join her on Saturday 17th May just after 4.00pm to talk about the Weald club which of course I will use to also promote the show. Its only 10 mins so I am sure I will forget lots, so please forgive me.We are back at Tulley’s Farm for the Club Breakfast on the 18th.Next Friday 23rd is our first Friday Ramble over to Horsham for lunch. Please join me at the B&Q car park and we will see how we go. I have been to the café before and it is lovely and they did great light meals.Brum Brum brunch is on the 25th at Ticehurst Ian and Ann welcome your support and donations to their annual charity.Drive n Dine on the 27th is to The Fox in Small Dole.Wheels Through the Years, 8th June – David asked marshals to be at the ground for 8.30 so we can greet guests arriving from about 9.00 onwards. Ian and Joy will be running the top gate (Downs Road) and Tony, Linda, Gordon and Malcolm the lower one. David will be I/C parking in the main field, Mandy the traders and Titch the middle field. We open at 11.00 with a welcome from the Town Mayor, please do join us and show him what an asset we are for his grant!Carl reminded us that the Evening at the Garage was coming up in Ticehurst on the 28th June. Meal and live music at £27.50 per head – book your place with Ann. ann@heartwoodbarn.co.ukWe have been invited to the Fletching Show on the 5th July from 12.00, please book with David, I will host on the day as he will be taking a well-earned rest. Finally please put the 17th August 2.00-5.00 in your diary as the club birthday at Sydney West centre. It is being subsidised by the club, but a donation of £5 a head towards the cost would be really welcome. As ever a really busy couple of months, just need to find a bit of time to sort out the lighting switch on the Austin …….We had a great run out to Ticehurst in lovely sunshine for Drive It Day last weekend. Twelve cars turned up as we took a new route through the Ashdown Forrest and then the tumbledown roads around the back of Crowborough. Hospitality from Ian, Ann and Carl was excellent as ever and a host of interesting cars including an Edwardian Renault and a Healey Silverstone to name but two.Our next club event is the VE-day celebration on May 8th where we already have our commitment of 15 vehicles, but always room for more on the day. We will be meeting at Corbet Court on The Brow at 4.30 and then down to St John’s Park. I will be setting up stall and banners at 3.00 in the park, if anyone can join me to help set up I would really appreciate it as the gazebo is too much for one and Fred is not available this time.We then have our usual club fixtures with the new addition of a Friday Ramble up to Horsham. It is a new experiment, if people like it and want it to continue I will do so – do give it a try one month this year.Bookings are still coming in for the show on Sunday June 8th with a wide range of different vehicles, stands and entertainment. David is now stepping up the publicity, if you know of anyone willing to take posters or flyers please do get some from David or ask and I can and you can collect from me during the day.As I hinted recently we have booked the Sydney West Community Centre for our Tenth Birthday party on the afternoon of the 17th August. It will be for past and present members and invited guests where we will have a light buffet and drinks. It is very much in the early stages of planning so I will share more in future newsletters. Remember to save the date! There will again be an update mid-month as we head into the show, hopefully not too many more as things ease off after July. All the best, I hope that you have been enjoying the recent run of great weather and thinking about getting out the cars and bikes for the new year. Whilst ostensibly working I have had the bike out for a trip to Winchester, which was great rumbling across the countryside in sunshine. There were a good number of Weald members at this year’s first Classics, Cars and Coffee at the Plough and a total of 62 vehicles.Things are now starting to happen with a run to Ticehurst to celebrate Drive It Day on the 27th April. Please do join me at the Station Road (McDonalds) car park at 9.30 for a gentle run over, I plan to be using the Austin so it will not be unduly fast!We have been invited to join the Town VE Day celebrations in the evening of the 8th May, 5.30-8.30pm. This is open to all club members and we have been given a slot near the catering and bar. I will give joining instructions shortly so if you are able to come please drop me a line. It is always a goo way of reminding people we are around and a good date to publicise the show.Talking of which the show is taking shape and we have started passing round the posters. If you haven’t already booked your place do contact David (events.wcvc@gmail.com) and he will send you joining instructions and a poster for your vehicle on the day. This month I have been struggling with getting our new site accepted by the Google search engine. Their systems are slow and much more complex than last time I did it but I think I might have finally sorted out the problem (I think it was to do with the way that Google spun off their Domains service last year). Whilst things settle use the button below to access the site.Nick
