Requirements to Join

Undergraduate Students

• Cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better

• Minimum of 15 credit hours in Psychology with PSY GPA of 3.5 or better. These 15 credit hours must include the following courses:

  • PSY 245 Statistics*

  • PSY 246 Research Methods

  • A minimum of 3 PSY courses taken at WCU including at least one course from Group A or B and at least one course from Group C, D, or E. (See Psych Major Advising Sheet for a list of courses).

*Or Department-approved equivalent

Graduate Students

General M.S. Requirements

• Cumulative GPA of all graduate coursework must be 3.75 or above

• Must have completed the following courses:

  • PSY601 Introductory Statistics

  • PSY602 Advanced Statistics

  • PSY524 Psychometrics

  • PSY600 Research Report

Industrial/Organizational M.S. Requirements

• Must have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours

• Cumulative GPA of all graduate coursework must be 3.50 or above

• A minimum of 15 credit hours of graduate Psychology courses with GPA of 3.75 or above

• The minimum 15 credit hours must include the following five courses in the student's curriculum: 

  • PSY602 Advanced Statistics

  • PSY560 Industrial Psychology

  • PSY562 Organizational Psychology

  • PSY524 Psychometrics

  • PSY569 Ethics and Professional Skills in Organizational Practice

Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) Requirements

• Must have earned a minimum of 36 credit hours (inclusive of a maximum of 12 transferred credits)

• Cumulative GPA of all graduate coursework completed at WCU must be 3.50 or above

• A minimum of 15 credit hours of graduate Psychology courses with GPA of 3.75 or above

• The minimum 15 credit hours must include the following  five courses in the student's curriculum

  • PSY601 Research Methods

  • PSY700 Adult Psychopathology

  • PSY705 Multicultural Clinical Psychology

  • PSY733 Psychology Clinical Practicum

  • PSY740 Research Practicum
