BES Library - Makerspace

Welcome to the Berlin Library Makerspace! A makerspace is an open, collaborative workspace where students can come together to share knowledge, explore technology, design, and create. This is a space where students can experience hands-on learning, problem solve, and practice resilency. Makerspaces foster collaboration and community building.

The Berlin Library Makerspace is available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. While this Makerspace is located in the library, it is open to everyone! Makerspace activities are facilitated with the classroom teacher and the librarian. Some activity options are listed below.

Build 0-Rama

Build settings/scenes from a book that students read. Make it collaborative by having students create individual pieces of a scene to be put into one larger diaorama.

EGG DROP CHALLENGE

Can you defeat gravity?

Learn about gravity and gravitational pull.

Teams of students will have an egg that needs to be protected. Using the found materials in the makerspace teams will make a "case" for their egg.

Can they build something that will protect the egg from cracking when dropped from a great height?

Survive the Grand Canyon

Learn about the awesome geological formations in the Grand Canyon. How hot does it get in the Grand Canyon? How deep is the Grand Canyon?

Prompts for building:

Create something that will protect you from the sun/ heat of the Grand Canyon.

What would you need to hike the Grand Canyon? Can you build it?
