Focus & Repertoire
This ensemble digs deeper into jazz idioms and improvisation. Students perform charts in swing, Latin jazz, funk, rock-jazz fusions, and traditional big band styles. Emphasis is placed on ensemble balance, section writing, improvisational soloing, and stylistic authenticity.
UWW Jazz Festival
Our jazz program participates in the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Jazz Festival each March.
At this event, students perform selected charts for adjudication
They receive feedback from guest jazz educators
Itβs an opportunity to hear ensembles from across the region and to showcase what our students are learning.
This festival experience helps students grow in confidence, ensemble skills, and understanding of performance in a broader context.
Students have the opportunity to earn awards for Outstanding musicianship and soloists.
Each spring, we look forward to preparing repertoire especially for this festival, refining charts, and polishing solos so that our students shine on the UW-Whitewater stage.
