Italiano II

Week  ending 9/8/23: Get all of your classroom supplies listed on the course outline by Monday 9/11. Please use this link (www.studystack.com/flashcard-3627075) to practice reviewing your adjectives from 7th and 8th grade. I know you all may not learned every one of these words in middle school, however, the ones in this set I am requiring you to recall/learn (if necessary) before we move on to the more advanced adjectives on Monday. Your HW for the weekend, besides getting your supplies, is to practice these words. Go through the flashcards, play the games, take the practice quizzes. Spoiler alert - there may be a "pop" quiz next week to make sure you're practicing so we can move on! It's been a great first week working with you :)

Week ending 9/15/23: Quiz this week (most likely Wednesday 9/13) on level I adjectives in Study Stack - your compito is to study every night leading up to the quiz. For the remainder of the week we will review greetings, titles, common family members, nationalities, & expressing opinions about some common hobbies/interests.

Week ending 9/22/23: We will continue reviewing level I fundamentals this week. This week we will also take a look at the big two Italian verbs, ESSERE and AVERE, and their common uses up to this point. Please complete the classwork assigned on Monday in GC while I was home sick, and be sure to complete the review packet assigned on Wednesday 9/20 during class - they will both be graded.

Quiz on 9/26: level review vocab/expressions found in Study Stack & Slides posted in your GC - greetings, titles, common family members, nationalites, expressing opinions and preferences, common hobbies/interests (everything posted in the slideshow in GC "Vocabolario: Ripasso - Personal ID Parte Uno")

Week ending 9/29/23: Review quiz on Tuesday 9/26, reviewing ESSERE v. AVERE, starting new more advanced adjectives to describe ourselves and family members

Wed. 9/27 - finish ESSERE o AVERE sheet that we started in class today (period 2 only)

Week ending 10/6/23: This week we will work on our presentational writing skills in writing a mini-autobiography about ourselves in Italian. This will be started in-class on Monday 10/2 and will be due Wednesday 10/4 - this assignment does not get worked on at home & will be an in-class assignment. By the end of this week we should be ready to commence with new, more advanced family vocab. Students should expect a mini vocab quiz this week (the day will be a surprise) on the adjectives they were introduced to last week (Study Stack and Wordwall are great ways to practice nightly.

Compito Monday 10/2 - bring a picture in of yourself to attach to your writing sample


Week ending 10/13/23: This week we will be starting our new unit under the essential question "Chi sono le mie persone importanti?" Students will fill in their new vocab lists on Tuesday 10/10 (and finish at home for HW using Study Stack if not complete during class). We will also begin reviewing important customs and celebrations in this unit, so we will review how to ask someone for their birthday and how to answer that question. 


Compiti: 1. Tuesday 10/10 - Finish filling in vocab list if you didn't do so in class 

                  2. Any overdue writing assignments/quizzes from last week are to be made up by Friday 10/13!

                  3. Possessive Adjectives EdPuzzle due Friday 10/13 by 2:30pm

Week ending 10/20/23:  This week we continued discussing the important people in our lives and their connections to ourselves. We also mastered using possessive adjectives to express relationships and connections between people.

Week ending 10/27/23:  Quiz during class on Monday on all of the important people in our lives & possessive adjectives. If you were absent on Monday please see me as soon as possible. Tuesday we will begin talking about traditions and customs and how they tie into various celebrations and holidays. We will also spend time this week learning about the various holidays celebrated in Italy, and we will compare/contrast to those celebrated in the USA.


Compiti: 1. Practice Study Stack/Word Wall - le feste/le tradizioni (i verbi in ARE)

                  2. Review your notes on all of the "feste" we discussed in class from Wednesday through Friday.

Week ending 11/3/2023:  This week we will continue discussing holidays/traditions, comparing and contrasting Italian and American holiday celebrations and traditions, and discussing what our favorite celebrations are. Students will be getting their quiz back from last week, and anyone who scored 80% or lower must correct. Tuesday will be "Amnesty Day" in class where students get to make up any missing quizzes/correct last quiz if need be-- the quarter in this class will be ending on Friday 11/3.

Week ending 11/10/2023:  This week, as we begin to wrap up our current theme of study (Chi sono le mie persone importanti?), we will naturally be learning the two verbs to know in Italian - SAPERE (to know facts/how to) and CONOSCERE (to know people/places). 

Compiti: 1. Master the definitions, conjugations, and uses of the verbs SAPERE & CONOSCERE

2. Wed. 11/8 - Complete questions 1-15 on the SAPERE/CONOSCERE sheet that we started in class today.

Week ending 11/17/2023:  We have began our new theme of study ("Cosa faccio nel mio paesino?") - first we reviewed places commonly found in a town/city from level I and level II, then students were introduced to some more advanced vocabulary they can use to describe their town/village. We will be working with this theme through the month of December (& adding more to it, as well!)

Compiti:  1. Quiz Friday 11/17 on the verbs SAPERE & CONOSCERE... know the definitions, conjugations and how to use each.

2. Due Monday 11/20 - get your Quarter 1 grade/comment sheet signed by a parent/guardian. This counts as a HW grade!

3. Thursday 11/16 - Complete Google Slides assignment (Intro to "Cosa faccio nel mio paesino? vocab).

Week ending 12/8/23: Continuing our review of the verb ANDARE (to go), preparing for quiz on Thursday 12/8 (page one of vocab & prepositions)

Week ending 12/15/23:  This week we will continue working with clothing vocabulary, talking about what we wear throughout the year and when we frequent various locations around our town. 

On Monday 12/11 all students who need to make up/finish last week's quiz will do so during class. The rest of you will work on an EdPuzzle which reviews clothing vocabulary during quiz make ups. Everyone is responsible for completing this assignment by 7am on Tuesday 12/12. This week we will continue working with clothing vocabulary, talking about what we wear throughout the year and when we frequent various locations around our town.

Week ending 12/22/23:  This week we will continue discussing our clothing routines using ERE verbs. There will be a vocab quiz on Wed. 12/20 on clothing/accessories vocabulary -- study! Week ending 1/5/24: This week we are continuing our work with shopping and clothing while we review common activitities (verbs) that end in ERE and IRE. There will be a quiz next week on all ERE and IRE verb definitions and conjugations.

1/15-1/26/24: Talking about our home lives, reviewing house and home vocab (rooms, appliances, furniture), ISC verbs in the present tense to talk about home life

1/29-2/2/24: Talking about our home lives, reviewing house and home vocab (rooms, appliances, furniture), ISC verbs in the present tense to talk about home life

2/5-2/15/24: Discussing what we do to help around the house, recalling how to express our opinions/feelings about things, practice talking about what we must do to help around the house (using 'devo'...)

Update 3/5/24: First half of third quarter is over. Please ask your child how they are doing in Italian class, and check Infinite Campus/Google Classroom for any missing assignments. Our next quiz will be on WEDNESDAY 3/13 on kitchen/restaurant activities and review of food vocab. Update 3/14/24: Students were assessed (quizzed) on Wednesday 3/13 in order to see how well they've mastered using food vocabulary, recognizing common kitchen activities, and identifying parts of a traditional Italian meal. Throughout the week we are working with reflexive verbs to discuss our daily routines. Next quiz will be on Wednesday 3/20, which will cover definitions and conjugations of reflexive verbs. Update 4/12/24:  Students were assessed on their knowledge of sports vocabulary on Tuesday 4/9. This week, we will begin working with vocab related to hobbies and interests outside of sports. Update 4/22/24:  Next assessment is on Thursday 4/25 - students will demonstrate mastery of leisure/hobbies vocabulary and how to use the "passato prossimo" with AVERE (both regular and irregular verbs).
