The Council on Addiction Prevention and Education of Dutchess County, Inc. (CAPE), (formerly the Dutchess County Council on Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency, Inc.), was founded in 1987. The Council was established to meet the growing need for Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) prevention and education services in Dutchess County. CAPE is certified by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services to provide prevention counseling and education to businesses, community organizations, schools and agencies.
Established in 1981, Grace Smith House is a private not-for-profit domestic violence agency, which provides both residential and non-residential services to victims of domestic violence and their children.
The mission of Grace Smith House, Inc. is to enable individuals and families to live free from domestic violence by:
Providing shelter and apartments, advocacy, counseling and education
Raising the consciousness of the community regarding the extent, type and seriousness of domestic violence
Initiating and taking positions on public policies in order to provide options which empower victims of domestic violence
Care Net is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports one of the largest networks of pregnancy centers in North America and runs the nation’s only real-time call center providing pregnancy decision coaching.
It is very important to be tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) during your sexually active years, especially if you have multiple partners, because many people have a STD and don't even know it. Therefore, it is best to be tested at regular intervals even if you do not display symptoms, as some STDs are cyclical in nature. It is very important to seek out the proper medical treatment. Many STD clinics can offer treatment or at least provide advice on where to go for it.
The Dutchess County Stabilization Center is a walk-in facility located at 230 North Road in Poughkeepsie for people feeling overwhelmed by mental health, substance use, or other life issues, such as:
Emotional distress
Anxiety and/or Depression
Psychiatric symptoms
Addiction
Intoxication
Family issues
Those of us who don’t face health emergencies every day can also benefit from Red Cross training. With a wide array of Lifeguarding, Caregiving and Babysitting, and Swimming and Water Safety courses the Red Cross can provide you with the training and skills you need to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
