1. We will be utilizing our Writer's Notebooks to brainstorm, take notes, and organize our writing pieces. Feel free to read, assist, or add to this at home.
2. Some writing will be created on loose-leaf paper. Some pieces will be typed on google classroom. Penmanship and typing are both skills that require practice. We do both a lot at school, but feel free to encourage more practice at home whenever possible.
3. We are starting off our year by writing small moment stories. If possible, write real personal stories at home that have heart and express real feeling and life lessons. Writers get better by writing and we can never write enough. Share these stories at home and I love reading anything our students write, so send them in and I would love to read them too!
4. Parents are a child's first and most important teachers. Help revise any writing at home unless told otherwise. Revision is more than just correcting spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Talk about stretching important moments by adding more description, inner thinking, emotion, and dialogue.
5. Model story telling at home by sharing your own life experiences. Parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, siblings, and family friends all have so many amazing tales to tell. Writer's grow so much from listening to those of us who make time to share our own personal journies.
