We are excited to announce the EdcampWCSD agenda for the upcoming Superintendent's Conference Day on March 9th. EdcampWCSD continues to grow in order to reflect the mission of the Wappingers Central School District. The Professional Development Committee, EdcampWCSD team and District Administrators poured through the feedback of last year’s Edcamp to put forth an agenda that is reflective of what you need to make the most of your professional development opportunities.
This year’s EdcampWCSD is focused on three driving questions that are at the heart of participant-driven professional development.
What do we, as professionals, bring to the table?
What topics do we feel need to be discussed with our colleagues to improve practice?
How will we ensure that our professional development needs are addressed moving forward?
What this boils down to is a day where we actively take control of our own professional development needs to share and learn from our colleagues in a setting that encourages communication and collaboration. We will identify topics and share strategies and resources to build the capacity of all stakeholders. In addition, identify areas where additional training and professional development is needed.
EdcampWCSD is, and has always been, about the participants. With that in mind, this year we are taking steps to ensure that each person has the opportunity to pursue what is most pertinent to their own professional development needs.
EdcampWCSD will be thematic. Based on feedback from last year and recommendations from the Professional Development Committee, there will be multiple locations for EdcampWCSD.
John Jay High School will host an Edcamp for secondary teachers that focuses on social emotional learning.
Roy C. Ketcham High School will host an Edcamp for secondary teachers that focuses on teaching and learning.
Gayhead Elementary School will host an Edcamp that focuses on grades K-2
Van Wyck Junior High School will host an Edcamp that focuses on grades 3-6
EdcampWCSD will also be shorter. Following opening remarks and session board building, there will be two forty minute breakout sessions for elementary Edcamps and three 40 minute breakout sessions for secondary Edcamps. Followed by the smackdown. Part of the day will be devoted to building specific structured sessions or department activities.
No facilitators and no session board sign-up in advance! In keeping with the true spirit of Edcamp, this year session boards will be built the morning of EdcampWCSD based on topics generated by the participants. Each breakout session will be based on the three driving questions:
What do we, as professionals, bring to the table regarding the breakout session?
What topics do we feel need to be discussed with our colleagues to improve practice?
How will we ensure that our professional development needs are addressed moving forward?
As a participant you have the power to plan your day.
Choose session board topics.
Plan what sessions you would like to attend.
If a session is not what you expected, feel free to visit another session in the same time slot.
The power of EdcampWCSD resides in the participants. The work that you do at Edcamp is the basis of the professional development opportunities provided for you throughout the year. Make the most of your day!
